History

The Highland Church of Christ had her beginning at the turn of the 20th century. From that time to present the church's determination has been to glorify God through His Son Jesus Christ. This same mind-set continues as Christ is lifted up at home and abroad.
Originally, the Highland church was known as the South Columbia church. In 1908, a building was constructed that provided a meeting place for the saints to assemble and worship. This building met the needs of a growing church until a new one was built in 1943 at the present location on Highland Avenue. Since that time additional space has been provided as needs arose. A new auditorium, offices, and classrooms were constructed in 1968.

The year 1994 proved to be a historic year for Highland. Twelve prime acres, cornering the new Tom Hitch Parkway and East James Campbell Boulevard, were purchased. Future plans call for relocating the Highland church to that location, the Lord willing. The Highland Church of Christ is people. Although facilities are important, they are not an end but only one means of advancing the cause of Christ. We, therefore, focus on precious souls, and we are interested in YOU! With a rich and enduring heritage, the Highland Church of Christ has developed a reputation for steadfastness in Bible teaching, for loving and caring benevolence, and for a world view of missions. We cannot look into the future, but because we serve a God who reigns supreme, the Highland church can face the 21st century with great optimism and humility in the presence of Almighty God.
