Riverside United Methodist Church

"A Friendly, Caring Fellowship"
The United Methodist Church dates back to 1738 when John Wesley, a preacher's son and himself a minister in the Church of England, began a ministry to the masses in industrial England. He preached on street corners to thousands of common laborers who were hungry for the message of Christ. Wesley organized societies stressing strict study and discipline to bring each believer in closer conformity to God's will. The members of these societies were dubbed "Methodist" because of their methodical adherence to discipline, study and service. The first Methodist Church in the United States was organized in 1766 and became the United Methodist Church when it merged with the Evangelical United Brethren in 1968.

Like the parent Church, Riverside United Methodist Church enjoys a rich tradition, dating back to October 14,1945, when the first organizational meeting was held. The existing structure was built in 1946 with the Educational Building being consecrated in December, 1961. In 1997, an addition with an elevator, handicapped restrooms, and an expanded parking lot was finished to make the church more accessible.

The history of Riverside United Methodist Church is a record of Christian stewardship and devotion. It is marked by the service of many who gave fully to build a church to meet the needs of sincere followers of Christ. Riverside's future is in the hands of those who gather in the name of Christ. We build on historic foundations to step into an exciting future.

RUMC has an outreach ministry at Heritage Manor Nursing Home on all fifth Sundays at 2:30pm which includes hymn singing and devotion.
